What is polyurethane packaging foam?

Polyurethane packaging foam is a protective foam material used to reduce shipping damage by creating cushioning support around fragile, sensitive or irregularly shaped products. It can be designed in different densities, expansion levels and formats depending on the application.

In protective packaging, polyurethane foam can help fill void spaces inside the box, absorb impact energy and reduce product movement during transport. This makes it useful for products such as glassware, ceramics, lighting products, electronics, spare parts, medical equipment and export samples.

NCpack® Packaging Foam uses a foam-in-bag concept: the expanding polyurethane foam is activated inside the pouch and placed inside the shipping box to form a protective cushioning area.

Why is polyurethane foam used in packaging?

Polyurethane foam is preferred in protective packaging because it can be formulated to create a stable cushioning structure. The aim is not only to wrap the product, but also to control the empty space around it and reduce the impact transferred to the product.

Void filling: Helps fill empty space inside the shipping box.
Impact absorption: Creates a cushioning layer that helps distribute impact energy.
Product stabilization: Helps reduce product movement during transport.
Irregular shape support: Useful for items that are difficult to protect with standard wrapping.

How does polyurethane foam-in-bag packaging work?

NCpack® turns polyurethane foam packaging into a practical, device-free pouch system.

1

Activate

The internal barrier is opened by applying pressure to the pouch.

2

Mix

The two polyurethane components are mixed inside the pouch.

3

Expand

The foam expands and creates volume inside the pouch.

4

Protect

The pouch forms cushioning support inside the shipping box.

Comparison

Polyurethane packaging foam vs. standard packaging fillers.

The right packaging method depends on product fragility, weight, shape and the available void space inside the shipping box.

Bubble Wrap

Useful for lightweight products, but may not fully stabilize heavy, sharp-edged or irregularly shaped items.

Loose Fill / EPS

Can fill empty space, but may shift during transport and may not create a product-specific support form.

NCpack® Foam-in-Bag

Expands inside the pouch and helps create a controlled cushioning support inside the shipping box.

Device-free polyurethane foam packaging with NCpack®

Traditional foam packaging systems may require foam dispensing equipment, compressors, trained operators and maintenance. NCpack® is designed as a practical alternative for companies that need protective foam packaging without investing in a machine-based system.

No foam machine required: NCpack® is activated manually inside the pouch.
Clean application: The foam works inside the pouch and is not poured directly onto the product.
Flexible use: Suitable for low-volume, medium-volume and sample shipments.
Product range: NCpack® codes from NC-10 to NC-90 cover different pouch sizes and expansion thicknesses.
