What is expanding packaging foam?

Expanding packaging foam is a protective packaging material designed to expand inside a shipping box and create a cushioning support around fragile or sensitive products. It helps reduce movement inside the box and improves protection against impact, vibration and handling damage.

Unlike standard loose-fill materials or flat wrapping solutions, expanding foam can create a closer support form around irregularly shaped products. This makes it useful for glassware, ceramics, lighting products, electronics, spare parts, samples and high-value shipments.

NCpack® Packaging Foam is a device-free foam-in-bag solution. The foam is activated inside the pouch and placed into the box, without the need for a foam dispensing machine or compressor.

How It Works

How does foam-in-bag packaging work?

The main goal is simple: fill the void, reduce product movement and create a protective cushioning area inside the shipping box.

1

Activate

The internal barrier is opened by applying pressure to the pouch.

2

Mix

The two components are mixed inside the pouch.

3

Place

The activated pouch is placed inside the shipping box.

4

Protect

The expanding foam forms a cushioning support around the product.

Why use expanding foam for shipping?

Shipping damage often happens when a product moves inside the box or when impact is transferred directly to fragile areas. Expanding packaging foam helps create a more stable internal packaging structure.

Void filling: It fills empty areas around the product and helps reduce movement.
Impact cushioning: It creates a supportive layer that helps distribute impact energy.
Irregular shape support: It can be useful for products that are difficult to protect with standard flat wrapping.
Cleaner packaging: NCpack® works inside the pouch, helping keep the packaging process controlled.
Comparison

Expanding packaging foam vs. traditional fillers.

The right protective packaging solution depends on the product weight, fragility, shape and the available void space inside the box.

Bubble Wrap

Useful for lightweight products, but it may not fully stabilize heavy, sharp-edged or irregularly shaped items.

Loose Fill / EPS

Can fill space, but may shift during transport and may not provide a product-specific support form.

NCpack® Foam-in-Bag

Expands inside the pouch and helps create a more controlled cushioning support inside the shipping box.

Which products can be protected with NCpack®?

NCpack® expanding foam bags can be evaluated for products that need a higher level of internal box support compared to standard wrapping or loose-fill packaging.

Glass and ceramics: Vases, decorative objects, porcelain and fragile products.
Lighting products: Chandeliers, lamps, fixtures and decorative lighting parts.
Electronics: Small devices, modules, instruments and sensitive equipment.
Spare parts and samples: Irregular-shaped parts, prototypes and export samples.
